The popular social phenomenon that has been such a huge hit with the younger set is now finally available to older adults and seniors 55+.St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre is hosting Companion Connections, a new social event specifically designed for 55+adults on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 1:00-3:00-pm. Speed dating has become popular among singles. This matchmaking process enables singles to find love or companionship by meeting several prospective partners within 3 to 10 minutes. Most events often have a team of 10 to 20 people. Each person gets an opportunity to talk to each eligible partner. WANTED: A FEW GOOD MEN for the next “STIR IT UP 60+ Speed Dating and More” event Aug. 25 from 6:30-9:30 pm at The Friendship Center (1888 Brother Geenen Way), Sarasota. “Stir it Up” is an exciting community series for persons 60+, hosted by The Friendship Centers and Kobernick-Anchin-Benderson.
- Set up community screenings and discussions of THE AGE OF LOVE that inspire and encourage groups to host senior speed dating events and bring positive change to local seniors' lives.
- Distribute a Speed Dating Kit to inform and guide local hosts in all aspects of organizing a successful event, and support them in enlisting multi-generational community support.
- Promote ongoing outreach and media coverage to grow a local and national conversation on the needs and desires of older adults. Defeat outdated stereotypes that seniors are 'beyond that' - and show the importance of seeking new connection and emotional growth throughout our lives.
- Bring new companionship and connections - as well as confidence and empowerment - into the lives of as many older adults as possible.
